As a lyric soprano, Margit Klaushofer is internationally active, performing concerts and operatic repertoire in Germany, England, Spain, the USA, Greece, the Netherlands, and Italy. She has given numerous recitals and concerts of contemporary music (including world premieres). She has taught at the mdw since 1988; since 1993, she has been a full professor of singing.
As a teacher, Margit Klaushofer regularly gives masterclasses in song and oratorio interpretation and opera singing, as well as lectures on the diversity of singing styles, youth vocal training, vocal disciplines, and repertoire studies. She is also in demand as a juror, including at the Competizione dell'Opera, Prima la Musica, the State Competition in Beijing, and others.
From 2017 to 2022, Margit Klaushofer was director of the Institute for Vocal and Music Theatre at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw).
Margit Klaushofer's students are engaged in the opera houses of the Vienna State Opera, La Scala in Milan, Düsseldorf, Braunschweig, Prague, Leipzig, Cologne, Stockholm, etc. and are prize winners of renowned international competitions such as the Mirijam Helin Competition, Operalia, Belvedere Competition, NYIOP New York, International Antonin Dvorak Singing Competition, etc.
