In 1995, American playwright Terrence McNally wrote his successful play "Master Class." The fictional story depicts how "the Callas" teaches three young singers after the end of her stage career and finds herself in the process.

Actress Andrea Eckert became a major attraction in Vienna and at the Klagenfurt City Theatre as Maria Callas. She captivated audiences nearly 200 times as the fierce, vulnerable diva. For her outstanding performance, she was awarded the prestigious Kainz Medal and the Karl Skraup Prize.
